Earthbind® 100 for Dust control

Earthbind®100 is a quality, versatile and environmentally friendly bio-based modified asphalt emulsion specifically engineered for dust control of unpaved surfaces constructed of native material.

Earthbind® 100 was developed to meet the need for a quality and environmentally friendly product that can be safely stored and easily applied. Earthbind® 100 is applied to successfully combat fugitive dust on roads constructed with native soils.

As a dust palliative, Earthbind®100 works by binding loose soil or aggregate particles together, strengthening the soil and aggregate matrix and preventing even the smallest particles from becoming airborne as fugitive dust. In addition, Earthbind®100 will add water resistance to the treated soil particles and will not re-solubilize in rainwater and wash off the road after curing. This is especially important in areas where the mitigation of sediment runoff from unpaved roads into streams is imperative.

Earthbind®100 is sold and transported in a liquid concentrate and is diluted in water prior to application. In addition to suppressing dust, Earthbind®100 can also be used as an environmentally friendly base stabilizer.

 

As a dust palliative, Earthbind® 100 provides:

  • Superior dust cohesion and suppression

  • Efficient dust control under a variety of conditions

  • Excellent penetration of a road surface without pre-watering

  • Applies quickly without road closures using a water truck or pressurized distributor truck

  • Easily washes off of equipment and vehicles before curing

Earthbind Stabilizer was developed to meet the need for a quality and environmentally friendly product that can be safely stored and easily applied. Earthbind Stabilizer is applied to successfully combat fugitive dust and to stabilize the road surface on many different types of unpaved, low-volume roads, parking lots, railroad yards, industrial sites, mining roads, military operations, private and public market sectors.

EB STB  – Use of RAP in Roads and Yards

Best Practices for RAP Application.

 

Base Preparation.

For optimal results, RAP should be placed over an engineered base layer (aggregate or subbase).

 

Layer Thickness.

A minimum compacted thickness of approximately 25 cm is recommended, depending on:

  • Traffic volume

  • Axle loads

  • Vehicle types

Subgrade Considerations

Placing RAP directly on heavy or clay soils is not recommended, as it increases the risk of early cracking, deformation, and settlement.

RAP Quality

  • Fresh RAP, applied close to the milling date, requires lower stabilizer dosages

  • Stockpiled RAP typically requires higher dosages to achieve equivalent performance

  • Best results are obtained from RAP originating from the upper asphalt layer of the milled pavement

 

Spreading & Shaping

  • Preferred method: grader, ensuring uniform thickness and proper cross-slopes

  • Small or confined areas: loader with a smooth blade bucket only (no toothed buckets)

LAS 320 – Asphalt Surface Renewal and Protection
